  • Permits and Entry Restrictions: Certain areas in Sikkim, such as the restricted areas near the border with Tibet, require special permits. Your tour operator will assist in obtaining the necessary permits. Similarly, Bhutan restricts tourism to maintain its unique cultural heritage. Travel to Bhutan can only be arranged through licensed tour operators.
  • Altitude Considerations: The Dragon Trail encompasses various altitudes, ranging from the lowlands of Sikkim to high-altitude destinations in Bhutan. It is important to acclimatize gradually and stay hydrated. If you have any pre-existing health conditions, consult your healthcare provider before the journey.
  • Weather and Seasonality: Sikkim and Bhutan experience different weather patterns throughout the year. Pack appropriate clothing and gear according to the season of your visit. Sikkim's weather can vary from mild to cold, while Bhutan's high-altitude areas may be colder. Be prepared for both warm and cool temperatures.
  • Physical Fitness and Trekking: The Dragon Trail involves some trekking and hiking activities, such as the trek to Paro Taktsang in Bhutan. It is advisable to have a moderate level of fitness to enjoy these experiences. Consult with your tour operator regarding the difficulty level and duration of treks, and be prepared with appropriate footwear and clothing.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Both Sikkim and Bhutan have rich cultural traditions and religious sites. Respect local customs, dress modestly, and follow the guidance of your tour guide when visiting monasteries, temples, and other sacred places. Seek permission before taking photographs, especially of religious ceremonies and artifacts.
  • Responsible Tourism: Embrace the principles of responsible and sustainable tourism during The Dragon Trail. Respect the environment, dispose of waste responsibly, and avoid littering. Support local communities by purchasing local handicrafts and products. Follow designated trails during treks and respect wildlife and natural habitats.
  • Travel Insurance: It is strongly recommended to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and evacuations. Ensure that your insurance policy is valid for both Sikkim and Bhutan and covers any adventure activities you plan to undertake.
  • Currency and Banking Facilities: Carry sufficient local currency (Indian Rupees for Sikkim and Bhutanese Ngultrum for Bhutan) as banking facilities may be limited, especially in remote areas. Credit cards are not widely accepted, so it is advisable to have cash on hand. ATMs are available in major towns.
  • Communication and Connectivity: In Sikkim and Bhutan, mobile network coverage and internet connectivity may be limited, especially in remote areas.
